This is an ideal internship for a student of library science or museum studies who wants to gain real-world experience with the internal workings of a small museum collection.
The Museum’s collection of approximately 6,000 artifacts consists primarily of:
- Attraction artifacts (game and ride components, furnishings, props)
- Costume
- Identifying
artifacts (medals, tickets, coupons, tokens)
- Information
artifacts (banners, cards, posters, signs)
- Photographic
materials
- Published
materials (books, sheet music, sound recordings)
- Records
(correspondence, diaries, financial records)
- Souvenirs
(postcards and assorted ephemera)
Interns should have a museum, library,
or archival background or should be actively pursuing graduate studies in one
of these areas. The intern should also have a familiarity with Coney Island, knowledge of proper museum artifact
handling, minor preservation treatment, cataloging standards, and Photoshop.
Come spend the summer at Coney Island! Interns are encouraged to enjoy
