Brooklyn College Library
invites applicants for Spring 2015 internships. We seek interns to work with
the Business and Sociology librarian on collection development in the social
sciences and/or business.
Successful candidates
must be enrolled in an ALA-accredited library science program, and should have
an interest in academic libraries, collection development, and business and/or
the social sciences.
Interns will learn to:
·
Evaluate the current collection to determine strengths and
weaknesses.
·
Identify materials to be discarded/repaired/repurchased.
·
Identify new materials for purchase using professional selection
tools.
·
Publicize to the college community newly purchased materials.
In addition, interns
will have opportunities to:
·
Engage in semester-long projects that support Library goals and
match interns' interests.
·
Collaborate with other librarians.
·
Visit other units in the Library to foster a deeper understanding
of all aspects of academic librarianship.
·
Attend conferences and visit other libraries
and collections in the metro area.
·
Investigate publishing opportunities.
·
Present their work to colleagues in the Library.
