Arts Education Library Internship at Lincoln Center Institute 2010
The Arts Education Library Internship (AELI) provides experience working in the Resource Center of Lincoln Center Institute (LCI). LCI’s Resource Center has two incarnations: The Heckscher Foundation Resource Center @ Lincoln Center, which houses a specialized collection of print and media—some 10,000 reference and circulating items, and LCI’s Electronic Library, which provides staff, teaching artists, educational partners, and professional development workshop participants with access to reference databases, e-books, online journals, digital articles, and specialized lists of Web links.
Founded in 1975, LCI brings exploration of works of art from several disciplines and from a diversity of cultures into classrooms around the New York metropolitan area, across the nation, and around the world with an approach to imaginative teaching and learning through aesthetic education. During three weeks each summer, the Institute welcomes nearly 2,000 international educators, administrators, and other visitors for a series of intensive professional development courses that form the foundation of yearlong partnerships.
Additional online and in-person professional development workshops and consultancies bring LCI’s approach to educators worldwide. In more than three decades of outreach, LCI’s approach has reached over 20 million students, teachers, administrators, parents, community members, and professors of education worldwide.
The Arts Education Library Internship falls under the auspices of the Department of Resources & Technology Development. Interns will work on multiple projects from the following program areas: circulation and patron assistance; collection development; electronic library marketing; blogging; research and reporting related to new initiatives; and bibliography. Applicants must have strong research, writing, and organizational skills. Extra consideration will be given to applicants with subject knowledge in either education or the arts and those with Web development experience and proficiency with HTML.
The Arts Education Library Internship at Lincoln Center Institute is a full-time (35- hour/week) program that will take place over eight to ten weeks during the summer, from mid-May through mid-July, 2010. This is an unpaid internship open to currently-enrolled students working toward a Masters degree in Library and Iformation Science. Applicants must arrange with their university to receive either academic credit for their work with us or a letter of support for the internship. The Intern will be mentored by the professional librarian who serves as LCI’s Director of Resources & Technology Development, who will help the intern establish appropriate goals, supervise her or his work, and provide any documentation required by the student’s university. The internship would ideally take place from May 17th through July 23rd, but this is somewhat flexible if the student’s university requires a specific timeline.
There are four requirements for the internship application. Please submit a cover letter, resume, two-page writing sample, and contact information for academic or employment references. Applications received by April 9th will be considered.
