Internship Description


Requirements: Library School Student must be doing internship for school credit and must provide proof of registration in internship class.

Hours: Flexible, but would prefer full days if possible. Spring or Summer.

Position Description:

Information Center

As an intern in the HarperCollins Information Center/Archives, the library school student will be exposed to the day-to-day workings of a small corporate special library and archive, as well as a Records Management program. The intern will learn the basics of maintaining an archival book collection as well as a corporate archive and be an active contributor to our records management program. The intern will assist the Director with various tasks including, but not limited to:

1. Assist in the creation of company-wide newsletters and marketing materials.

2. Assist in the digitization of corporate documents to be added to web based database on the Intranet.

3. Assist Records Manager with daily tasks such as ordering materials from storage, preparing new boxes for storage, and processing incoming and outgoing files/books/boxes.

4. Assist in retrospective book cataloging project as well as in cataloging new and incoming books.

5. Intern will assist with day-to-day basic research, such as simple document (book review) retrieval and obtaining author contact information. Intern will also help fill in while staff is on vacation. Intern will be searching Nexis and other databases that the Information Center subscribes to.

6. Intern will learn Collage, the web-based system we use to maintain our Intranet site. Intern will assist in updating the site.
