Interns will gain MARC cataloging experience using the ANS's Koha ILS and learn AACR2 and RDA standards while processing and cataloging materials, which include pamphlet files, auction catalogs, individual journal articles, monographs, and other items. Interns may also have the opportunity to work with rare books dating back to the 16th century and materials in the ANS archives.

Brooklyn Law School Library Fellows Program

The Brooklyn Law School Library is pleased to announce two paid library fellowship opportunities for the Spring 2023 Semester.  This new fellowship program is designed to provide current library students with opportunities to perform foundational work in public services, reference, archives, and digital collections. Under the guidance of the Director of the Law Library and the Associate Librarian for Public Services, the library fellows program aims to provide fellows with valuable training and experience, while enabling the library to pursue new projects.

Summary:

Job Title:  Archive Intern, 1 position (Department of Vertebrate Paleontology)

Responsibilities and Duties:


The intern will participate in an IMLS-funded project to catalog the Vertebrate Paleontology Archive in order to broaden access to the collection. The intern will work in a team of two, under the supervision of the Project Archivist and AMNH collections and Research Library staff, on processing tasks to meet the goals of the work plans set for various areas of the project. These tasks will include cataloging unprocessed materials; assisting with the creation of finding aids; working through materials to flag them for future conservation, re-housing and digitization in future grant projects; and contributing to social media outreach.

The internship period runs for 24 months; this position requires a minimum commitment of 15 consecutive weeks, working one to two days a week. Work on this internship can only be performed onsite at the AMNH. Preference may be given to candidates who can commit to more than one consecutive semester. A stipend will be provided as support over the internship period.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants should be enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, a Library and Archives graduate program, or enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Paleontology program with experience working in an archive collection. Proficiency in the use of Mac- and PC-based software, good organizational skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently are crucial. Awareness and interest in current developments of data standards, trends and emerging technologies in the field of archives and records management. Comfort taking the initiative in new settings and knowing when to ask adept questions. Experience working in museum collections a plus.

National Library of Medicine Associate Fellows (Remote)

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) seeks early and second-career librarians within five years of graduation interested in advancing equitable and innovative futures for biomedical libraries to participate in a one-year fellowship that fosters the development of librarians seeking to lead in medical or health sciences libraries.

 

What will I be doing?

 

As a National Library of Medicine Associate Fellow, you will:

  • Select and manage projects ranging from operations to research and development, project

opportunities are in data and open science, vocabularies and ontologies, scholarly communication, user engagement, and training

  • Grow professionally and learn in a cohort, participating in a formal curriculum taught by staff experts
  • Develop skills in data science (analysis, visualization)
  • Develop foundations in leadership (presenting, network building)
  • Receive support from experienced mentors
  • Attend a professional conference and a one-week practicum at a health sciences library

The NLM Associate Fellowship Program (AFP) offers staff-taught sessions in library operations, research and development, intramural and extramural research, and development, the lifecycle of NLM web-based products and services, and the NLM engagement and education program. Associate Fellows develop a national and international perspective of the NLM’s role in health science and biomedical science. Associate Fellows choose projects to collaborate on and complete with NLM staff allowing them to gain valuable project experience in areas that aid their future careers. Associate Fellow projects have led to peer-review publications and services that became a part of the services and products of NLM.

 

Appointment Length

This is a one-year research appointment starting July 1, 2023, and ending June 30, 2024.

 

Participant Benefits

Annual stipend of $61,947

Health Insurance Supplement - Health Insurance Supplement – The program offers a stipend for participants to purchase health insurance through a group health insurance plan via Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE). Alternatively, participants may choose to hold outside insurance. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. About Us:
R & Company is the pre-eminent design gallery in New York City, representing contemporary
artists as well as a wealth of important vintage furniture and design objects. The gallery
presents 7-10 exhibitions annually in its Tribeca locations and participates in international
design fairs in the United States and abroad. 
 
Within R & Company, we hold an important and extensive non-circulating library and
archival collection covering the history of art, design, and architecture from circa 1900 to
the present. The general library includes many rare and out-of-print titles, with specialties in
international design overviews from 1950-60, period pamphlets, and catalogs. In the archives
and special collections, R & Company holds a significant range of materials, including a
drawings collection, a vast collection of periodicals, photographs, and ephemera, an AV media
collection, and many other rare resources related to the history of modern design.
 
Position Summary:
R & Company has recently acquired the remaining materials from the estate of the designer
and architect Greta Magnusson Grossman, including drawings, paintings, photographs, and
other ephemera. We seek an intern to assist in processing all materials with a critical eye.
Duties include surveying, analyzing, and cataloging the collection, arranging, occasionally
cleaning, and performing basic preservation of collection materials. 
 
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have some experience or coursework completed in library/
information science or archival studies and/or experience working in a library or collections
management setting. Individuals with commensurate experience or coursework completed in
decorative arts, design, or architectural history are strongly encouraged to apply.
Must be able to perform detailed work consistently, be reliable, and be capable of lifting
cartons weighing up to 40 pounds. The ideal candidate will have some experience with
FileMaker Pro (or a similar database system).

The Sony Music Entertainment Archives, located in the SONY Building at 25 Madison Ave. in Manhattan, houses the archival materials for Sony’s music companies.  Sony Music is the parent company for the two oldest recorded music companies in the world, Columbia and RCA Victor, as well as other companies such as Arista and Zomba Records.

 

The Archives maintains historic documentation, an extensive library of photographic and other visual materials, an LP and CD library, and other various company materials.

 

The Archives is seeking an intern for Winter 2023. The intern will perform various library related tasks, including but not limited to: cataloging of documents and books; organizing and reshelving collections of documents, lps, and cds; and organizing, documenting, and archivally re-housing large segments of the company’s photo collection.

Job Description: The American Trust for the British Library (ATBL) seeks a student intern to work on an archival digitization project. This is a great opportunity for a current graduate student to work on a small digitization and access project from beginning to end.  


The American Trust for the British Library is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that promotes and supports the work of the British Library, one of the world’s greatest research libraries. The ATBL seeks to foster transatlantic understanding through events, lectures, and discussion in the United States and in the United Kingdom, as well as through fundraising and incremental financial support and gifts in-kind that help the British Library fulfill its collecting, preservation, and outreach missions.  


Qualifications required: Must have a B.A. and be enrolled in a graduate-level library science or Archives program with demonstrated knowledge of archival principles and best practices. Open to recent graduates of an MLIS or Archives program. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.  


Project description:  The American Trust for the British Library Archive consists of 6 boxes of paper materials (6 linear feet) of the business and historical records of the ATBL, and includes financial and legal records, correspondence, grants and foundations information, publications, photographs, event invitations, and other materials generated by the organization between 1979 and 2020. The Grolier Club Library is the official repository for the ATBL records.

  

In preparation for the ATBL’s upcoming website redesign, the Archives Intern will inventory, digitize, and catalogue photographs and other visual materials (such as programs and brochures) from its archival collection. The work must be performed on site at the Grolier Club Library, located at 47 East 60th Street, New York, NY. This is a part-time position ideal for a graduate student. 


The ATBL will provide a document scanner to be used for the purpose of this project. The intern will need to provide their own laptop. 


Supervised by: Administrative and Communications Coordinator & Executive Director 


Payment and Terms of Internship: The intern will receive $15 per hour and will work 5–8 hours per week for approximately 6 weeks. Starting and ending dates are negotiable but the work should be completed by February 2023. The intern will account for their hours on a document supplied by the ATBL.

Job Description
The New York City Department of Records & Information Services (DORIS) preserves and provides access to historical and contemporary records and information about New York City government. The Municipal Archives is seeking a part-time intern (15 hours per week, for 15 weeks) for a pilot project to begin digitizing and transcribing/indexing the1890 New York City census. The intern will work with Capture One and Adobe Creative Cloud software in accordance with Federal Agencies Digitization Guidelines Initiative (FADGI) standards. The intern will photograph the volumes and conduct post-production activities including processing RAW files to TIFFs, cropping, embedding metadata, creating access copies, and uploading files to a storage server.
 
The intern will also work on description and indexing the volumes according to DACS and in line with the MA’s processing requirements.
 
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Working towards or received a master’s degree from an accredited college in library science or archives.
Familiarity with digital photography, camera equipment, and Capture One software preferred.
Demonstrated ability to perform careful physical handling of original materials during digitization process.
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud products preferred.
Knowledge of archival descriptive standards.
 
Preferred Skills
Candidates must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; demonstrate strong research and organizational skills; and be able to work well with people of diverse backgrounds.
Candidates must be Internet savvy and proficient with PC software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite.
Bilingual abilities are a plus.

Medical Center Archives Internship, New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine (Manhattan)

 

The Medical Center Archives at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine is hiring one paid intern to help preserve, arrange, and describe unique historical collections documenting the history of a premiere medical center and the second oldest hospital in the United States.
 
NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine:
The NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center originated from an affiliation agreement between The Society of the New York Hospital (chartered in 1771) and Cornell University Medical College (founded in 1898). The medical center first opened its doors in the fall of 1932. 
 
Established in 1972, the Medical Center Archives preserves the records of the NewYork-Presbyterian
Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, as well as affiliated and predecessor institutions, and makes these materials available for use by students, faculty, staff, and the public. In addition to institutional records, the Archives holds approximately 300 collections of papers and manuscripts from noted associates. In total, the Archives contains more than 7,000 linear feet of papers, records, multimedia, and photographs, which represent a continuous chronicle of health care, scientific research, and medical education dating to 1771.
 
Description:
The Medical Center Archives Intern will gain experience in preserving, arranging, and describing historical collections according to archival standards and under the guidance of the Technical Services Archivist. The intern will also gain experience in related archival activities, including assisting in preservation rehousing for an early hospital collection and technical services database work.
 
Schedule and Salary:
Flexible part-time hours (20 hours per week) available Monday-Friday from 9:30-4:30 between October 2022 and June 2023, not to exceed 680 hours. The internship is paid hourly.
 
Qualifications:
The candidate must be currently enrolled in or have successfully completed an introduction to archives course. The candidate must have experience working with historical materials and have knowledge of archival preservation, arrangement, and descriptive standards. Additionally, the candidate must have experience with the Microsoft Office suite, be organized and able to work independently on tasks, be flexible in changing situations, and be reliable and responsible.
