Assist the Archivist & Archives Coordinator on the archive digitizing project while
performing all other archive functions.

   KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with ongoing digitization and key wording project
Assist with image dictionary and key word thesaurus construction
Fulfilling research requests using information found in the archives.
Create & maintain finding aids for newly processed collections.
Maintain accurate and thorough record of all researches for future reference.

Assist with special projects, as required.
Additional information:
This is a temporary position and not eligible for benefits.
Hours: 9:30 am to 5:30 pm.
Duration: Approx. 9 months from start date

   YOUR PROFILE
Master
s degree or current student working towards a Master
s degree in Library and Information Science
or Records Management
Experience in working on thesaurus construction and controlled vocabularies
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Self-motivation and a proactive approach are needed.
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent organization skill
Accurate attention to detail is required.
Interest or experience in art history a plus.
French language skills a plus.

NYC Dept of Environmental Protection Internships (Manhattan)


Repository Description: The DEP Archives is responsible for collecting and preserving historical records documenting the activities of the Department of Environmental Protection and its predecessor agencies. Among its most important records are those that document the development and operation of New York City’s immense water supply and distribution system. Not only are these records historically important to engineering, science, and New York City, they are also critical to the continuing operation of our city’s water supply system. This is an opportunity to work with vitally important archival records and gain real-world knowledge of managing records that support local government.
Internship Descriptions:

·        Digitization Interns (2 positions): Job ID 2017-1608. The selected candidates will work with the Records and Archives Management team to digitize archival photographs (large-format film negatives) related to the planning and construction of the New York City water supply. Tasks will focus on scanning, metadata review and creation, and quality control, providing experience in the technical aspects of digitization as well as familiarity with imaging standards, digital asset management, and making resources available. Other responsibilities may include conducting research in support of user requests and creating social media content.

Preferred Skills:  Interest in New York City history, government records, or engineering. Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent organizational and planning skills, detail-oriented, self-motivated, able to work well following a written project plan with minimal supervision, and capable of identifying and communicating project issues as they arise. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications, particularly Excel. Previous experience digitizing archival records and using Adobe Photoshop a plus.



·        Digital Photography Collections Intern: Job ID 2017-1609. The selected candidate will work with the Records and Archives Management team to catalog born-digital image files documenting projects and activities of the DEP. Tasks include research to identify image content, metadata creation, and quality control. Other responsibilities may include developing reference resources, conducting research in support of user requests, and creating social media content. The ideal candidate for this position is familiar with New York City and State geography and infrastructure, has excellent writing skills, and can describe images quickly and accurately.



Preferred Skills: Interest in government records or engineering. Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent organizational and planning skills, detail-oriented, self-motivated, able to work well following a written project plan with minimal supervision, and capable of identifying and communicating project issues as they arise. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications, particularly Excel. Previous experience working with a digital asset management system and applying metadata highly desirable.


Qualifications: Interns must currently be enrolled at a college/university at the graduate level pursuing a degree in information and library science, archival studies, history, or related field, and must have at least a 2.5 GPA.


Compensation and Duration: Interns will be paid $15.30 an hour. The positions require a full-time commitment (Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm) for the duration of the internship: 10 weeks from June 5 through August 11, 2017. Employment may potentially be extended after this period on a part-time basis.


Work Location: The Archives is located on the east side of midtown Manhattan.

Research Intern, Morgan Lib & Mus (Manhattan)

UNPAID INTERN / RESEARCH ASSISTANT POSITION
 
The Department of Printed Books & Bindings at the Morgan Library & Museum seeks an organized, diligent, and engaged candidate to serve as a part-time unpaid research assistant or intern for a 2017-2018 publication entitled Delirium: The Art of the Symbolist Book. The catalog will document the Morgan’s holdings of printed books, music, manuscripts, and drawings related to the Symbolist movement of the 1880s and 1890s. The position reports to the curator in charge of the book and current exhibition, also entitled Delirium.
 
Responsibilities may include:
-Researching, compiling, and formatting a checklist of relevant items in the collection based on the Morgan’s online catalog and related print publications.
-Compiling entries for a bibliography, and verifying quotations and citations in the text.
-Assembling and formatting image captions for the text and catalog portion of the book.
 
Job requirements:
-The ideal candidate will have excellent research skills and be able to work independently; experience working with rare books and an understanding of bibliographic descriptions of books and bindings; reading knowledge or fluency in French; and a basic knowledge of 19th-century French literature. 
-They must be able to work primarily offsite, with access to online resources and Microsoft Word and Excel. 
 
Hours/Schedule:
The assistant is expected to work at least 10 hours a week, or more, at the student’s discretion. During the course of the project, they can set their own hours for work performed remotely; occasional onsite work will be scheduled at the student's convenience. There may be an opportunity to extend the project beyond the spring semester.

Ogilvy & Mather is the world’s largest advertising network. The Intelligence Center is Ogilvy & Mather’s
research and information team. We provide research and analysis to planners, account teams, new
business, executive leadership, and others. We manage the resources and databases for the agency as well
as handling around 2,000 research requests a year. Our Research Library houses digital resources as well as
books, industry publications and periodicals. We bring the outside, in.
 

Internship Summary:
 

The Intern will support the Ogilvy Intelligence Center and Research Library with library management,
research requests, and administrative duties. The position calls for a meticulous but creative problemsolver,
who is organized but flexible to handle fast deadlines and last minute requests. This internship
would be ideal for a candidate with background and/or interest in marketing, advertising, and consumer
psychology.


The pay for this internship is $15/hr. with approx. 21 – 28 hours per week. Flexible work hours.


Responsibilities:


The Research Library intern will be expected to assist in:


• Routing publications
• Cataloging books, journals, magazines, and other resources in EOS
• Managing access to research resources
• Answering research requests and projects
• Other administrative duties as needed.


Qualifications:


• Currently in an MLIS program or near completion.
• Must be highly proficient in computer skills – especially database management and cloud
computing.
• Knowledgeable about advertising and marketing.
• Familiar with library cataloging rules – work experience in library cataloging or taxonomy a plus.
• Adept at database and online research.
• Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
