Medical Library Internship for Summer 2021

 

 

Department: CUNY School of Medicine/Medical Library

Supervisor: Marisol Hernandez, MLS, MA

Internship Title: Library Website Design and Reference Intern

 

Summary:  The Medical Library of the CUNY School of Medicine is seeking a Library Website Design and Reference Intern to assist in enhancing the medical library website with LibGuides CMS as well as conducting occasional literature searches on a variety of topics in medical education. Furthermore, the intern will be expected to provide assistance with the development of library training materials. The intern reports directly to the school’s Medical Librarian, with a schedule of 10 hours per week.

 

Responsibilities:

 

·         Assisting with library website design using LibGuides CMS

·         Conducting scholarly literature searches and summarizing findings

·         Assisting with general reference questions

·         Conducting internet research

·         Assisting with the development of library training materials

 

 

Qualifications:

 

·         Ideal candidates should have a strong interest in library website design and medical librarianship.

 

·         Strong preference for applicants with intermediate-level experience with web design, HTML and some database searching.

 

·         Ideal candidates will have the following qualities:

o    Manages Complexity: Makes sense of complex, high quantity and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems

o    Action Oriented: Takes on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm

o    Communicates Effectively: Develops and delivers multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences

o    Work Environment:  Ability to work both on site and remotely

This summer's internships include a 12-week, full time internship with the Division of the General Counsel which includes working with:
1. the Legal Department to organize a digital legal library and 
2. Records Management to assist with daily operations and special projects. 

This job will be primarily remote but may involve some days on-site over the 12 weeks.

INTERNSHIP SUMMARY:

The ARF Knowledge Center provides research and insights to support ARF members – marketers, agencies, media, adtech, and other leading players in the advertising and marketing ecosystem.

We are seeking an enthusiastic intern to help support a team of experienced business librarians with secondary research projects, knowledge management, and administrative duties as needed.

·         This is an exciting opportunity for library students to gain professional business experience in a supportive learning environment.

·         The position calls for a meticulous but creative problem-solver, who is organized but flexible to handle fast deadlines and last minute requests.

·         This is a paid internship at the rate of $20 per hour for graduate library students.

·         For now, this would be entirely remote. We can work with you to accommodate your school schedule, but there should be some availability during office hours: 9am to 6pm EST.

QUALIFICATIONS

        Currently in a graduate program for library and information science

        Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills 


        High proficiency in computer and secondary research skills

        Working knowledge about media, advertising, or marketing a huge plus 

        Knowledge management and taxonomy skills a plus
