Interpublic Group: Library Assistant Intern, Center for Marketing Intelligence
The Interpublic Group
of Companies is a leading, global marketing

countries. The Center for Marketing Intelligence provides IPG operating companies
with fast access to timely information,
research and analysis.
Job Function:
This position handles all periodical and library-related subscriptions, coordinates research-related contracts, and resolves billing issues. The role will provide administrative support to the department
head and serve as the department point-person
for receipt of vendor invoices, time off record-keeping, the department calendar and reception duty as required. This is a position with growth potential. This is a paid
position. The Intern would be expected to work part-time while in school and full-time
(40 hours) while on breaks, such as summer and winter.
Job
Responsibilities:
• Order, check-in, route, and maintain
periodical (paper and online) subscriptions and passwords. Troubleshoot missing issues and other
problems, working with subscription agent and directly with publishers. (Learning objective: most libraries perform
this activity so it is important to learn as the candidate might do it or
supervise it during his or her career)
• Co-ordinate
ordering and payment for books, reports, association memberships, etc.
(Learning objective: like above, this is a typical library function)
• Maintain
small physical library (Learning objective: same as above)
• Co-ordinate
organization wide, research-related contracts (e.g., Lexis Nexis):

prepare pre-approval forms for user
participation
·
reconcile billing issues
·
maintain subscription files
·
monthly accrual report

become an important library function: candidate will probably use this
experience later in career)
• Process
department vendor invoices (Learning objective: typical library work)
• General
administrative support, including monitoring dept. time-off records,
maintaining phone lists and organization charts
• Expense
report processing, meeting and calendar management and phone support for the
department head
• Back-up to
Office Manager (Learning objective: all of the above three functions are basic
to working in an office today – developing the skill set to multi-task, to do
detailed work for a variety of people in a variety of different areas)
• Work with
Growth Services Team on internal databases as time permits (Learning objective:
databases have become an important function in most libraries)
• Light
research work (online and Web-based information search) as time permits
(Learning objective: this is the #1 skill a future librarian needs)
• Webinar and
projection set-up for department meetings
Job Requirements:
• 1 - 2 years
administrative experience in a corporate environment desirable
• Excellent
Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel and Powerpoint
• Strong facility
with numbers
• Strong
organizational and detail skills
• Enrolled in
an MLS program (preferably in early stages)
• Research
skills

CUNY J-School Research Center: Library Intern
The CUNY J-School Research Center is dedicated to providing students and
faculty with the latest research training, tools and resources for journalists.
We are seeking an unpaid intern for a one-semester appointment of 10-15 hours
per week. The intern will report to the Access Services Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will provide assistance with cataloging,
circulation, reserves, and interlibrary loan services; help maintain the
Research Center Website; maintain the inventory of equipment and resources;
disseminate Research Center communications; order supplies; provide basic
equipment maintenance and maintenance of library systems; and other duties as
assigned by the Chief Librarian.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must
· Be currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited library and information science graduate program and have a minimum of 18 credits toward their degree.
· Commit to a one-semester appointment.
· Have completed a course in cataloging and reference/electronic resources.
· Have the ability to work effectively and flexibly in a service-oriented, computer-intensive environment.
· Have the ability to use web authoring and desktop publishing software, like WordPress.
· Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Have experience searching the Internet.
· Have the ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member.

Lesbian Herstory Archives: Library and Archives Internships
The Lesbian Herstory Archives is looking for library and/or archives student
interns with a demonstrated interest in Lesbian Studies and LGBT History.
- Interns will have the opportunity for practical application of archives and library skills in a casual, friendly, dedicated environment
- Course credit and letters of recommendation will be provided upon request.
- Interns will be supervised by professional librarians and other archives staff
Requirements
- Available for a minimum of 10 hours per week.
- Completion of core graduate-level Library or Archives courses
- Familiarity with cataloging and archival processing
- Skilled in the use of MS Office and/or Google Docs and regular office equipment
COLLECTION AREAS
Periodicals - 2 Spaces
Intern will process incoming newspapers, newsletters, journals and
magazines, update cataloging records and prepare collections for digitization
where necessary.
Special Collections & Reference - 2 Spaces
Interns will process collections and create electronic finding aids, staff
the reference desk and provide researcher assistance.
Photographic Digital Imaging - 2 Spaces
Interns will assist with the processing digitization and cataloging
photographs and graphics.
Special Preference: Proficiency with Content
DM and/or Photoshop
Video Working Group - 2 Spaces
Interns will process and catalog film /videos including relabeling and
shifting collections.
Audio Digitization - 2 Spaces
Interns will assist with the cataloging, digitization, indexing and
re-housing of audio tapes.
OPAC Working Group - 2 Spaces
Interns will perform database cleanup in a variety of collections and
contribute to the design, testing and launch of the LHA's new OPAC.
