NYC Dept of Environmental Protection – Summer Internship

Description: The DEP Office of Records and Archives Management is looking for a student intern for summer 2009. Primary projects are re-housing and inventorying collections, as well as digitizing collections and assisting with user requests as necessary. The major holdings include the long-term and permanent records produced by NYC agencies responsible for water supply and distribution dating back to 1830s, including engineering/architectural drawings, photography and administrative records.

Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in a college/university program to be eligible. Must have a genuine interest in archives, history, engineering or related. Curiosity and communication skills are critical. Must be detail-oriented, have good organizational skills and be able to work independently. Must be able to lift/move 25-40 pound boxes. Must be computer literate; MS Excel is required, Adobe Photoshop and MS Access desirable. Possible continuation through fall semester also desirable.

Compensation: Pay rate is $9.48/hour. The position is full-time Mon-Fri, 9-5 (no weekends). Internship runs 6/01/2009 through 8/28/2009 with possibility to extend through the school year. The Archive is located on the east side of Manhattan.
