P/T - Cataloging, Digitization, and Research Internships - ARChive of Contemporary Music (NYC)
Established in 1985, the ARChive of Contemporary
Music has grown to more than 2.25 million recordings, making it the largest
popular music collection in the United States. In addition to recorded music,
we also collect books, magazines, music memorabilia and more. Our simple goal
is to preserve popular music from around the world for future generations.
We're located at 54 White Street in Tribeca. For more information about the
archive, visit http://arcmusic.org.
We currently have internship opportunities for:
* Cataloging of sound recordings
* Digitization of books
* Cuba Music Week research -- the latest focus
on the music of other cultures
Our book digitization project is in cooperation
with the Internet Archive. Interns will be trained in the entire digitization
workflow: cataloging and metadata creation, scanning, performing quality
assurance checks on the images, and troubleshooting hardware and software
issues. Catalogers will be trained with our in-house cataloging rules and
Filemaker Pro database.
Web-savvy interns or those with strong writing
skills may have the opportunity to write for our website or help with social
media efforts.
All internships are unpaid, but we will help you
meet any requirements to receive course credit. Time requirements are flexible
— all we ask is that you are available for at least two 4-hour sessions per
week.
To apply, please contact Bill Levay at bill@arcmusic.org with your resume and a
few words about your general interest in working at the archive and what
project(s) you are interested in contributing to. We'd love to hear from you.
