DESCRIPTION:
• This is an exciting opportunity for flexible, creative library school students to gain practical experience in a dynamic, urban academic library.
• The Reference Intern will work with librarians on projects in these areas:Reference Desk Service; Research Guides (LibGuides); Video Tutorials; Communications (Signage, Brochures, Social Media).
• Part-time schedules will be arranged during Monday – Friday, 10 am to 6 pm.Interns will complete 120 hours of work during the semester.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Required: Enrollment in the Internship course for credit at a Master’s program in library or information services.
• Preferred: Completion of courses or experience in reference and bibliographic sources, electronic resources, database searching; experience with library/ information technology; experience in an academic library; excellent computer skills.

Photo Archive Intern, Robert Nickelsberg (Brooklyn)
Prominent photojournalist Robert Nickelsberg is seeking an intern for the spring 2017 semester for an ongoing archival project. Tasks include:
- rehousing prints and negatives
- scanning and post-production
- general archive organization and maintenance
Interns should be familiar with using Microsoft Excel. Knowledge of Photoshop and Lightroom is preferred, as is experience using using scanners (especially an Imacon), but not essential.

About Robert Nickelsberg:
Robert Nickelsberg worked as a TIME magazine contract photographer for nearly thirty years, specializing in political and cultural change in developing countries. After covering Central America in the mid 1980s he established his base in Asia. Living in New Delhi from 1988 to 1999, Nickelsberg recorded the rise of religious extremism in South Asia. His work has also encompassed Iraq, Kuwait, Vietnam, Cambodia, Burma, and Indonesia. Nickelsberg’s images have documented human rights abuses by Islamic militants and security forces, and post-traumatic stress disorder in Indian-controlled Kashmir.
Nickelsberg has documented Afghanistan since 1988, when he accompanied a group of mujahideen crossing the border from Pakistan. Nickelsberg has one of the more comprehensive archives of the rise of Islamic extremism with mujahideen training camps in Pakistan, followed by the former Soviet Union's withdrawal from Afghanistan in 1988, including the mujahideen takeover in Kabul in 1992 with the 1996 takeover by the Taliban forces and post 9-11 occupation by US and NATO forces to the present day, 2016. His 2013 book, Afghanistan -- A Distant War, published by Prestel, captures his 25 years of work in Afghanistan.
Nickelsberg was named the 2013 winner of the Overseas Press Club’s Olivier Rebbot Award for A Distant War given for the best photographic reporting from abroad in magazines and books. His images have appeared in publications and broadcasts that include TIME, The New York Times, Newsweek, the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, the Guardian, Paris Match, Stern, CNN, and NBC. His photographs have been exhibited at The Philadelphia Museum of Art, the International Center of Photography, the Queensborough Community College, the Afghanistan Center at Kabul University and at The New America Foundation in New York.

Summer Intern, MTA (Manhattan)
The MTA Bridges and Tunnels Special Archive and Engineering Library is hiring an intern for the summer. The position is for 10+ weeks, and would pay graduate students $18/hr. They would work out of our location at 2 Broadway, and we’re hoping that they will primarily be assisting with a records survey, although there’s room for them to develop the internship to suit their own interests. Functional Job Title: College Intern Civil Service Title: College Aide MTA Bridges and Tunnels is one of the largest bridge and tunnel agencies in the world serving more than 800,000 vehicles each weekday (over 280 million vehicles each year) at its seven bridges and two tunnels while helping support the transit services of the MTA. MTA Bridges and Tunnels is pleased to announce its 2017 College Summer Internship Program. The internship will run from May 2017 through September 2017 with some flexibility to accommodate college schedules, and is available to full-time matriculated undergraduate students who have minimally completed two semesters during the 2015-2016 school year, as well as matriculated graduate students currently enrolled in graduate studies. Selected students will commence the summer internship program (10 week minimum commitment) with the opportunity to be selected for a limited all-year internship (eligibility and program requirements apply). Successful candidates will be placed based on their major area of study and interests, as well as the needs of the various operating or staff areas within MTA Bridges and Tunnels. The Engineering & Construction Department is seeking college interns to work on multiple projects. These include, but are not limited to: The Enhanced Maintenance Program, designing traffic signs, updating technical forms, performing studies of toll plaza configurations, assisting in reviewing Quality Management Plans, drafting presentations, conducting research and inspections, creating BIM models, performing design analysis, material take-offs, preparing construction cost estimates, organizing and maintaining databases, specification writing, confirming inventory for replacement, scoping proposed projects, conducting inspections of ongoing construction projects and assist in coordinating, management, and overseeing biennial bridge and tunnel inspections projects. College interns are expected to learn how to work as part of a team while developing best practices. The internship program combines and enhances the student's academic and technical school based training with practical job related skills.

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a matriculated bachelor's or graduate degree program from an accredited college related to one of the following fields:

Are you currently enrolled in an MLIS program? Are you interested in gaining valuable hands-on experience processing, describing and rehousing archival collections in an historic academic setting? The Burke Library, one of 21 libraries in the Columbia University system and one of the largest theological libraries in the country, is looking for interns!
The Union Theological Seminary Archives (UTS) collections consist of personal papers from Union’s illustrious faculty and students since 1836. The collections cover a wide range of historical periods and formats, with material topics ranging from early 20th century missionary programs, Old Testament feminist scholarship, student activist organizations during the American Civil Rights Movement, significant historical figures in Progressive Christianity, and Union’s place in the context of the global ecumenical community.
Tasks:
● Researching and writing finding aids (guides to archival collections)
● Creating contents lists for archival collections
● Housing historic papers in proper archival environments
● Undertaking basic preservation
● Contributing to the Burke Library Blog
● Involvement with implementation of EAD
Qualifications and Skills:
● Must be currently enrolled in a library & information studies master’s program.
● Excellent oral and written skills. Legible, neat handwriting.
● Support and training available; no prior specialist archival knowledge or of religious studies needed.
● Ability to lift heavy boxes (40 lbs.) safely and handle weights of 15 pounds regularly.
● Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
● Capacity to work with rare and often dusty materials.
● Knowledge of other languages, including German, French, Chinese and Japanese a plus.
Internships are unpaid and *must* be taken for credit through your school. Interns are asked to commit for at least 10 hours per week within Monday – Friday during normal business hours.
