Internship Description

The National Archives & Records Administration (NARA) preserves the vital permanent records of the United States Government. These are records that document the rights of American citizens, the actions of Federal officials, and the national experience. NARA's mission is to ensure continuing access to these records.
The National Archives at New York City is the regional repository for federal documents from New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Our holdings contain records from the Federal Courts, Customs Service, Coast Guard, Navy, Army Corps of Engineers, National Park Service, and more. Our staff accessions, processes, provides access points and makes records available to the pubic both onsite and remotely.


Job Description
Intern duties include basic archival holdings maintenance, such as re-housing records in new folders and boxes, creating labels, verifying contents of collections, creating finding aids, scanning documents for the catalog and indexing records into databases.


Supervision and Evaluation
Work will be carried out under the supervision of the Internship Coordinator, who will assign projects and review work.


Requirements
Students in Archives Management, Library and Information Science, Records Management, and History who have had coursework or experience in archival management, preservation, indexing and/or historical research methods are encouraged to apply.


This is an unpaid intern position. A minimum of one day a week is required.
