The Records Management Department is a support department that enables staff to access important company information by assisting with all records-related requests and training. We ensure company-wide adherence to the records retention schedule and policy. The Records Management team manages both paper and electronic records for departments by providing detailed records inventory for accurate search and retrieval in our records management database.
 
Your Role: New York City Economic Development Corporation’s Records Management department is seeking a library science program student for a paid internship. Interns will assist the NYCEDC’s Records Management team’s day-to-day operations. The intern will gain exposure to records management practices including hands on experience with life cycle of records in a corporate setting. Candidates may receive school credit for their work. Internships are for a period of three (3) months with a possible extension, but cannot exceed 1,000 hours per calendar year.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Inventory physical and electronic company records, such as land sales, site maps, and contractor deliverables, based on NYCEDC Records Management department standards and retention policy.
  • Input new and normalize existing metadata in records management database.
  • Conduct records research for staff and data cleanup tasks.
  • Perform quality control of data entry.
  • Aid analysts in creating and or updating policies and procedures, including training materials and metadata standards.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with databases; records management or archival repository software preferred.
  • Knowledge of metadata standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Able to work with close-knit team as well as independently.

The Calder Foundation is a non-profit institution dedicated to preserving the legacy of the
twentieth-century artist Alexander Calder.
The Terry Roth Internship was established in honor of our longtime friend and
collaborator with the goal of making internships accessible to all candidates by
compensating recipients.
Digital Image Processing Archival Internship
Fall 2017
Part-time
Minimum commitment: 15 hours per week, 10 weeks
The archival internship is open to students (undergraduate or graduate) or recent
graduates of art history or a related discipline. Undergraduates must have completed at
least two years of study.
Archival Interns focus on organizational tasks involving cataloguing, preserving, and
digitizing all aspects of the foundation’s collection of archival material. The Calder
Foundation Archive maintains over 130,000 documents, 26,000 photographs, dozens of
films, and thousands of press clippings, articles, and publications. The Archive is also
responsible for researching, cataloguing and archiving dossiers of information and
images for more than 22,000 known works created by Calder.
Digital Image Processing interns will assist with identifying, analyzing, and processing
images of artworks to be integrated into the Foundation’s physical and digital holdings.
Applicants must be conscientious, mature and detail-oriented. They must also possess
strong visual and analytic skills. Also beneficial is prior experience with archival tasks,
FileMaker Pro databases, Photoshop, and Epson scanning equipment.

P/T - Paid Internship - New Knowledge Organization Ltd. (Manhattan)

Graduate Students of Library & Information

New Knowledge Organization Ltd. is seeking a MLIS or equivalent student for a fall 2017 to spring 2018 paid internship. The intern will serve NewKnowledge as the team’s information specialist, with a focus on data management and library research. This position is
similar to those of an academic librarian, but embedded in social science research, along with managing institutional information repositories. The intern will work closely with the NewKnowledge team on research and evaluation projects, and also independently on
internal projects. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in studying informal education and writing scholarly articles.
Daily activities and long-term tasks may include:
• Use a wide range of social science databases to retrieve scholarly articles in multidisciplinary fields, and provide general reference
support to research staff including web searches, compiling of bibliographies, and research assistance;
• Identify and pursue open access publishing opportunities;
• Contribute to data management (e.g., establish data management protocols for new projects with project managers and other staff);
• Improve data management practices (e.g., promote efficiency and accuracy);
• Creating and monitoring online survey and focus group recruitment projects; and
• Manage and track reports and publications, including record keeping, producing metadata, and dissemination.
The intern will also be responsible for a special project of mutual choice, which may include:
• Identify an external repository for NewKnowledge’s data collections (especially qualitative);
• Develop a “portfolio” of NewKnowledge’s most representative work that can be used when approaching potential stakeholders;
• Developing a repository system for proceedings of conferences attended by NewKnowledge staff; or
• Communicating with NewKnowledge staff about information sources available to them.
The MLIS intern is also expected to help program staff as needed. This may include: data entry and analysis, managing communications
with project participants, proofreading, drafting literature reviews or reports, transcribing audio recordings, and managing website
updates.
Requirements
• Be a current MLIS student or recent graduate of a MLIS program;
• Have excellent organizational and time management skills; and
• Have excellent search skills using electronic sources, with focus on academic databases and open access sources such as
data.gov. A strong understanding of electronic records and information management is needed for this position.
• Optional: We recommend that students applying have completed courses in Information Sources and Service (i.e., advanced
training in searching scholarly databases and other reference sources), as well as Records Management (i.e., training in
contemporary approaches to records and information lifecycles) prior to this internship. Alternatively, candidates may be enrolled in
these courses at the time of the internship.

P/T - Archival Internship - The American Numismatic Society (Manhattan)



The American Numismatic Society

The Library of the American Numismatic Society is offering course-credit and volunteer internship opportunities for Fall 2017.

Interns will gain experience cataloging in MARC and processing materials using the ANS’s Koha ILS. They will use AACR2 and RDA standards while processing and cataloging materials, which include pamphlet files, auction catalogs, individual journal articles, monographs, and other items. Interns may also have the opportunity to work with rare books dating back to the 16th century and materials in our Archives.

P/T - Web Archiving Technician -NYARC (New York Art Resources Consortium) (Manhatan)




Part-Time (14 hours/week during fall/spring academic semester)


Background
The New York Art Resources Consortium (NYARC), consisting of the libraries of The Frick Collection, The Brooklyn Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art, seeks a student in a graduate program of information science, art history, or related discipline to become a Technician in a web archiving program that collects, captures, describes, and archives web content of resources for the study of art. The NYARC web archiving program is administered by The Frick Collection. Reporting to the Head, Web Archiving Program, the Technician will work on relevant web-based collections in areas of focus that correspond with analog collection strengths.

Position Summary 
Using Archive-It and other tools, the Technician will build and refine web-based collections, perform quality control, and participate in development of descriptive metadata practices.

Duties and Responsibilities
      Use Archive-It and other tools to create web collections defined by NYARC Directors
      Perform Quality Control of WARC (Web ARChive format) files
      Participate in development of descriptive metadata practices
·      Create and update administrative records
      Provide written reports and evaluations as requested
      Assist with interviews of curators and scholars at NYARC and elsewhere to identify current and potential uses of web content and archives in scholarly research

Requirments

      Must be enrolled in an accredited Master’s Degree program in Library/Information Science, Art History, or related discipline
      Demonstrated interest in web archiving and metadata creation in a research library or comparable environment
      General knowledge of software applications supporting integrated access to online collections and associated technologies
      Knowledge of current trends and emerging technologies in web archiving
·      Demonstrated organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills
      Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other team members in a consortial environment
      Excellent interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
      Ability to meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:  Experience in library or archives; knowledge of web archiving tools and techniques; knowledge of scholarly literature of art history; coursework/training in metadata


Compensation:           $13.00/hour during academic semesters.
