The New York Academy of Medicine Library ( 2 positions available)

The New York Academy of Medicine Library is seeking two qualified applicants to assist with assorted library projects. These are temporary, part-time student intern positions in the Library. This is an opportunity to experience hands on library work in all areas of library functions with exposure to special collections and electronic grey literature projects.

About the Library
The New York Academy of Medicine Library houses one of the largest medical collections open to the general public in the United States. Its Malloch Rare Book Room houses a significant portion of the rare book collection, in addition to many of the secondary sources related to the history of medicine and the history of books and printing. These materials are available for use as part of NYAM's commitment to enhancing the health of the public and to promoting scholarship in the history of medicine and public health. The Library also produces the Grey Literature Report, an electronic alerting service of grey literature focused on public and urban health information produced by non-commercial publishers.

Date Available: Immediately
Qualifications: Current enrollment in an ALA-accredited Master’s program in Library and Information Science or undergraduate library science program; Interest in public health and urban health resources as well as special collections; Experience with bibliographic databases, including MEDLINE; ability to lift and carry heavy library materials at any given time.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist with a wide variety of library projects ranging from shelving and photocopying to copy cataloging
• Use bibliographic tools to verify citations
• Use scanner and appropriate software to create PDFs and or digital copies, as needed
• Retrieve and re-shelve materials from closed stacks
• Assist with ongoing stacks projects; help with mapping and relocating of materials;
• Assist with tasks related to technical services
• Assist with preparation of packet materials for readers
• Link check and replace broken links within various grey literature electronic projects

Supervision: This position reports to Associate Director who will assign project activities on a weekly basis. Each position is 14 hours, or two days per week, at $11.00/hour; no benefits.
