Fall 2013 Internship Opportunities
Avery Architectural & Fine Arts Library is accepting
applications for two unpaid internships in its Art
Properties Department. The Art
Properties Department oversees Columbia University’s art collection, which
includes paintings, sculptures, drawings, watercolors, prints, photographs, and
decorative objects installed throughout the campuses. These internships will provide MLS students
with a unique opportunity to process and organize text- and image-based
archival collections associated with the University’s art collection. Interns will learn by working with Avery’s
expert staff of curators, librarians, and archivists, and will also be guided
by Columbia University Libraries’ conservation, cataloging, and metadata
teams. Prospective applicants with an
interest and background/experience in art or art history are preferred.
Internship 1. Special
Exhibition Files: create an finding aid for the archival files associated
with special exhibitions held in the Rotunda of Low Library from ca. 1960 to
the present; create a master timeline of all exhibitions.
Internship 2. Photographic Reproductions: organize, process, and catalog collections of photographic reproductions in analog (prints, 35mm slides, negatives) and digital formats associated with art objects from the collection.
Terms of internship:
Availability: Fall
2013
Work hours: Minimum
of 10-15 hours per week for full semester
Monday-Friday
between the hours of 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
