F/T temporary - Research Internship - Wildlife Conservation Society @ Bronx Zoo (Bronx or home based)

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), located at the Bronx Zoo, is offering an internship (for course credit) or volunteer opportunity for a research project updating information on grant recipients.

“The WCS Research Fellowship Program (RFP) is a small grants program designed to build capacity for the next generation of conservationists by supporting individual field research projects that have a clear application to the conservation of threatened wildlife and wild places.  Collectively, the professionals receiving RFP grants will apply field-tested conservation science to the challenges facing the natural world.” [http://programs.wcs.org/rfp/Home.aspx]

WCS would like to update our information on these grant recipients, identifying current contact information, published works and current employment information.  The intern for this project will need to use research skills to search databases such as Web of Science, BioOne, and Google Scholar.  At the same time, knowledge of and experience in using social media tools such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and ResearchGate, will be equally important.  Most grant recipients are from developing countries and may be difficult to locate online.  Therefore the intern/volunteer will need to be creative in tracking down information on these individuals.

The selected candidate will have good search skills (training on Web of Science, etc., will be provided), will be detail-oriented and a creative thinker.  The final product will be a detailed list of contact information and citations to publications authored by grant recipients.

We project this internship will take about 6 weeks, fulltime and work can be done either on site at the Bronx Zoo or at the intern’s home/school.
