P/T - Public Library Spanish Outreach Internship - Patchogue-Medford Library (Patchogue, New York)
The Patchogue-Medford Library's Spanish Outreach Department
is seeking an intern for the fall and spring semesters. Our library serves a diverse population and
provides an excellent experience for an energetic, community-driven library
school student. This internship in our busy public library will include interacting
with Spanish-speaking patrons, both children and adults, assisting at public
service desks in our Children’s and Adult Services Departments, and being
involved in whole-library programming for Spanish-speaking patrons. All
applicants must be enrolled in a library
school program, and must be doing the internship for class credit. This is an unpaid internship, but an
invaluable experience. Verbal and

P/T - Remote and Onsite Internship projects - Lesbian Herstory Archives (Park Slope or Remote)
The Lesbian Herstory Archives (located in Park Slope,
Brooklyn, NYC) is looking for graduate and undergraduate students with a demonstrated interest in Lesbian Studies, Women's History or
Lesbian Activism who are interested in library and/or archives
studies
.
In addition to
traditional on-site positions, we have several online-projects for students
interested in working remotely and meeting via video chat once per week for
guidance & discussion.
We have a number of
exciting projects for the upcoming academic year working with web
development, video and audio collection cataloging, digitization and
preservation, metadata management, processing special
collections and cataloging books and periodicals. There will also be the
opportunity to plan exhibits or events and to attend workshops and classes.
Interns will get to meet professionals in a wide variety of analogous
fields and have many networking opportunities including site visits and guest lecturers.
All internships at LHA are unpaid.
Volunteers are always welcomed as well. Retirees are also encouraged to apply.
What We're Offering

- Interns will be supervised by professional librarians and other archives staff who specialize in the fields of photography, archival practices, graphic design and non profit management.
Requirements
- A demonstrated interest in Women's Studies, Lesbian Studies, Women's History (scholarship, activism, artistic expression)
- Available for a minimum of 20 hours per week (at least 10 hours between 10Am and 6pm)
- Experience working in a Library

Archive
, Museum or Historical Society environment.
- Familiarity with
library practices,
large-volume data entry,
cataloging and archival
processing
- Customer service experience
- Skilled in the use of MS Office and/or Google Docs
in a Windows PC environment
(though interns
have the option to use their own Mac if they desire)
Preferred
- Completion of core library
/archives
courses
or at least 1 full semester of
library school
- Web development skills
- Experience working with an online content management system

About The Lesbian Herstory Archives
In operation since 1974, The Lesbian Herstory
Archives is home to the world's oldest and largest collection of
archival, bibliographic and multimedia materials by and about the
diverse lesbian experience.
LHA is, and has always been, an all-volunteer run, 501(c)3 ,
non-profit educational organization with no paid staff and no government
support. We rely upon individual donations and private foundation
support.
We offer research assistance to academics, artists, filmmakers
authors, individuals and classes. We also provide tours, exhibits
in-house events and a semester-long Lesbian Studies course.

P/T - Cataloging and Comics Archives Internship - Columbia University (Manhattan)
Internship with Columbia University Libraries Original and Special Materials Cataloging
Unit and the Rare Book & Manuscript Library
Fall 2017 semester
The Columbia University Libraries is one of the top five research libraries in North America.
Columbia’s Rare Book & Manuscript Library, its principal repository of primary source materials,
has a fast-growing collection of comics and cartoons, and recently acquired a large collection of
American and European minicomics . For the purposes of an appraisal that must be done before
year’s end, a complete inventory is required.
As the Minicomics Inventory Project Intern, you will work within the Original and Special
Materials Cataloging Unit at Butler Library. You will be overseen by Amber Billey, Metadata
Librarian, and Karen Green, Curator for Comics and Cartoons in the Rare Book & Manuscript
Library. Work will include creating a basic Dublin Core record for each item in the collection. No
prior familiarity with minicomics is required.
Tasks:
● Handling and describing special collections materials
● Creating Dublin Core inventory records for each item in the collection
● Researching minicomics titles and authors
● Utilizing cataloging tools such as RDA Toolkit, Library of Congress Authorities, and
WorldCat
Qualifications and Skills:
● Currently enrolled in a MLIS program
● Excellent oral and written skills. Legible, neat handwriting.
● Familiarity with cataloging and metadata standards such as Dublin Core, RDA, ISBD,
and Library of Congress Authorities
● Completion of an Introduction to Knowledge Organization or Metadata course
● Familiarity with G Suite applications
This is an unpaid internship and must be taken for credit through your school. Interns are asked
to commit for at least 10 hours per week within Monday-Friday during normal business hours.

P/T - Academic Library Practicum/Internships - Bloomfield College (Bloomfield, NJ)
Library at Bloomfield
College seeks practicum/internship students to assist in weekday evening, and
weekend, public service efforts. Fall semester 2017 at Bloomfield College ends
16 December.
Bloomfield College is
a Middle States-accredited, masters-level institution of about two thousand
students, fifteen miles from NYC. Academic divisions: business, creative arts/technology,
education, humanities, natural science/mathematics, nursing, social/behavioral
science. Over 50% of Bloomfield students identify as first-generation college.
Participants will be
based in library reference/circulation desk area, assisting with both
functions. They will liase regularly with library director regarding theory and
practice of academic librarianship. They also will work on a forward-thinking
project that streamlines Bloomfield College library public service functions.
Practicum/internship
is unpaid and can either be not-for-credit, or can be administered for-credit
at student’s home institution, in accordance with home institution logistics.
Regardless, before beginning practicum/internship, applicants must pass a
Bloomfield College background check and provide to Bloomfield College proof of
insurance.
