P/T - Records Management Interns - NYC Department of Buildings (Manhattan)
The NYC Department of
Buildings is responsible for ensuring the safe and lawful use of buildings and
properties by enforcing the NYC Construction Codes, Energy Code and Zoning
Resolution, and dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all New Yorkers
and making our city safer. The Records Management Unit supports the agency by
developing uniform standards, procedures and techniques for the handling of DOB
records within the framework of the City's statutory requirements. Our focus is
to ensure the authenticity, accuracy, integrity, and accessibility of both
print and digital records.
Records Management is looking
for Graduate Student Assistants. This position will give opportunities for
practical applications of library science principles, and the candidate will
gain experience with records management, outreach, grant writing, and
digitization projects. Working closely with the Records Management Officer, the
Student Assistants will contribute to a major update of records practices at
the agency. Projects will include:

Revision of the Records Retention Schedule
•
Developing digital records programs
•
Inventorying and digitizing historical records
•
Software and hardware upgrades
•
Researching and preparing grant opportunities
•
Developing system documentation
•
Coordinating with the Department of Records and Information Services and other
entities
A successful candidate
will be currently enrolled in a Library Science program or related. Strong
research skills, ability to work independently, effective communication, and
technological proficiency will be required.
Hours will be available
from 7:30-5:00 Monday-Friday, up to 17 hours a week. The salary will be between
$ 11.50 - $15.90, based on education level.
