Library Internship at KPMG LLP

There is an internship available at the DPP/OGC Library of KPMG LLP for the spring 2011 semester. The Library holds the paper and digital collections of the Dept. of Professional Practice and Office of General Counsel. KPMG is one of the Big 4 accounting firms with offices throughout the world.

Duties will include:

· Cataloging

· Preparing authority files for online catalog

· Processing documents for digitization

· Processing books for offsite storage

· Helping with departmental intranet maintenance

· Document management

· Business research

Applicant must be an MLS student for whom the internship would fulfill course requirements. There is no salary or stipend.

Our Custom Marketing Group is responsible for licensing our repertoire to other companies who want to manufacture CD’s with Sony owned masters on them which include negotiating the terms, collecting advance payments and updating company wide as well as department only databases. Qualifications:
All candidates must be currently enrolled in a college or university. Candidates should display strong written and verbal communications skills, as well as ingenuity and an eagerness to learn. Candidates must also possess excellent computer skills (Word, Excel and Outlook preferred) and strong organizational skills. An interest in the music/entertainment business is strongly preferred. Students will be asked to intern at least fifteen hours a week but we will try our best to work around student’s schedules. Columbia University’s C.V. Starr East Asian Library, Makino Collection Internship

The Makino Collection on the History of East Asian Film is an extraordinary archive of materials chronicling the history of Japanese and East Asian film, collected by the renowned documentary film maker and film historian Makino Mamoru.

The collection contains material dating back to the earliest moving pictures in Japan and the start of domestic film production during the Meiji period (1868–1912), and continues to the present. It includes a wealth of rare print materials including full runs of trade press and fan periodicals, fliers, posters, and other publicity materials.

The Makino Collection Internship program provides current library school students with hands-on experience in several areas of academic librarianship. Interns will work collaboratively with mentoring library staff to help design and create a website and blog for the Makino Collection and to help process archival materials.

The Intern will be appointed for the Spring semester (2011). Preference is given to candidates who have Japanese language ability or Chinese language ability and a web design background.

POSITION AVAILABLE: January, 2011. This is an unpaid internship.

WORK SCHEDULE: Work schedule is variable, 150 hours per semester.

DUTIES: Designing the Makino Collection website in consultation with the Archivist. Processing includes working with the Archivist to identify and describe items
for the finding aid, re-housing materials in archival safe folders and boxes, and
inputting data into Excel files for the finding aid among other tasks.

REQUIRED: Must be current (or enrolled) graduate student in an accredited library school program during the Spring 2011 semester. Candidate must have either Japanese language ability or Chinese language ability, and knowledge of web design.

PREFERRED: Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to evaluate, understand, and describe Japanese or Chinese materials. Interest in academic librarianship. Interest in film studies.

The Library of The Jewish Theological Seminary - Multiple internship opportunities

The Library of The Jewish Theological Seminary has numerous internship possibilities for library school students for the spring 2011 semester. Some of the internships require the ability to read Hebrew but for many Hebrew is not mandatory. Each student will be supervised by a librarian.

The Library of The Jewish Theological Seminary holds the foremost collection in Judaica in the Western Hemisphere. With more than 400,000 printed books, The Library also houses manuscript codices, graphic art collections, archives, and is currently actively building its digital library. We are seeking Library School interns for many different projects within the Library. Some of them require subject knowledge and knowledge of Hebrew but many do not. It is a unique opportunity to work with very experienced librarians who will supervise and guide the student in each specific project. a. Cataloging books in foreign languages such as Turkish, Polish, Spanish, etc.

b. Cataloging out of print books in English and Hebrew for people with knowledge of Hebrew and interest in Jewish Studies including Special Collections materials.

c. Cataloging of ephemeral materials. There are many collections. Knowledge of art, music and/or knowledge of Hebrew.

d. Sorting, matching and cataloging rare and out of print sets of Hebrew Bibles.

e. Sorting books in Yiddish (knowledge of Yiddish required)


2. Serials:


a. Sorting and organizing old and scarce individual serials issues primarily in Hebrew and German

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: ensure consistency in site development, use our content management system (ModX), as well as to perform regular site updates.

This position will require comfort with XHTML and CSS, and some exposure to PHP and Javascript. Experience with other content management systems would also be extremely helpful.

Special projects will include formatting parts of the site for mobile and Google TV viewing, normalizing the site navigation, and perhaps developing web applications according to the intern's interests and abilities. This is not a graphics design or content development position. The intern should expect to gain significant corporate experience in an international media company.

The International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) is currently accepting applications for a Spring Session 2011 knowledge-management internship in New York. This is an exciting opportunity to learn content management and the basics of implementing a global intranet,as a key piece of a larger knowledge management strategy.

Internship opportunity at the Anti-Defamation League

The Anti-Defamation League is looking for an energetic, creative MLS student to fill a position in the Rita and Leo Greenland Library and Research Center. The position is paid, and ADL will cooperate with your university to obtain credit for the work experience, if needed. The internship is for 12 hours a week for the spring semester. An interest in working with library and archival materials is essential. Also required are accuracy in creating and maintaining records, as well as good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

The intern may have some or all of the following responsibilities:

Organizing, preserving and indexing archival materials

Digitizing library publications

Assisting with cataloging books, electronic documents, audio-visual materials and pamphlets

Designing and implementing systems for special collections

Other related projects, as needed
