P/T - Photographic Archives Intern - American Jewish Historical Society (Manhattan)

The American Jewish Historical Society is currently accepting applications for a Photograph Archives
Intern for Fall 2015. This position will work exclusively with photographic collections. The internship is
unpaid but can be used for academic credit and requires 120 hours of work for the semester between
the hours of 9:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday.

Responsibilities Include:
-Surveying and processing photograph collections including rehousing and preservation
-Writing processing plans and finding aids
-Applying metadata to digital resources
-Keeping an inventory of recent accessions
-Working with the photo archivist to answer reference questions based on visual collections
-Social media postings based on visual resources

Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited Master of Library Science program with an archives concentration
-Knowledge of basic archival principles with at least one introductory class
-Understanding of Photoshop, Microsoft Office Suite, and scanning software
-Knowledge of the history of photography, the photographic process, and Jewish history a plus
-Familiarity with EAD, XML, DACS, metadata and the AAT Thesaurus a plus

P/T - Archives, Metadata, Asset Mgmt Internship - HBO (NYC)

Fall (15 hours per week).
The HBO Archive internship offers experience with archive management, cataloging, collections processing, and corporate archive metadata management to Library Science and Moving Image Archive graduate students.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Archive interns may specialize in Metadata, Media Asset Management, or Archive Management; or they may spread their experiences across these three areas.

Metadata – Data mapping exercises; data normalization projects; cataloging and indexing for new collections (such as props, costumes, corporate archive items, or file-based media); and assisting with archive tools, including assessing proofs of concept and vendor demos.
Media Asset Management – Processing and taking inventory for specific collections; analyzing and normalizing collections data; researching legacy video and film formats; researching historic HBO collections; and assisting with edits to the HBO Archive Collection Management Policy.
Archive Management – Participating in department staff meetings; shadowing a manager and attending project meetings; visiting storage facilities; analyzing storage vendor data and other statistics; and documenting and visualizing workflows, asset lifecycles, and project roadmaps.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
Must be enrolled in a program that confers a Masters in Library Science or Moving Image Archiving. Must possess: close attention to detail; experience with Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel; an interest in physical asset management, media archives, and/or digital asset management; familiarity with audiovisual media formats.


DESIRED SKILLS / TRAITS:
Familiarity with metadata analysis tools and techniques; familiarity with the media industry; strong writing skills; experience with cataloging media assets, physical and digital.

P/T - Archival Internship - Poppenhusen Institute (Queens)

 
The Poppenhusen Institute in College Point, Queens, is currently seeking a library school student interested in an archives internship. The intern will have the opportunity to gain experience in processing archival materials and artifact collections, responding to research requests, digitizing materials, promoting collections via social media, assisting with the development of new exhibits, and other projects. Projects will vary according to an individual’s skill set and interests.

Requirements

P/T - Archival Processing Intern - New York Botcanical Garden (Bronx)


The New York Botanical Garden seeks an Archival Processing Intern for the fall 2015 semester to assist with the processing of a large collection of landscape maps and architectural plans.

DESCRIPTION: The intern will assist in inventorying a collection of historic landscape and architectural plans and maps,  entering information about each piece into an existing  database which will be made searchable to the public. Candidates must have taken at least one course in archival concepts, or be enrolled in an archival course during their first semester of the internship to be eligible for the position.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Demonstrated understanding of archival collections and principles of arrangement and description.  Ability to work independently.  Strong organization and time-management skills; attention to accuracy and detail is essential.  Interest in landscape design a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform basic rehousing and description of inventory.

• Contribute to a subject content Libguide and to Garden blog.

• Apply basic preservation techniques including storage and foldering of oversized materials.

• Assist with basic collection management, including numbering of folders and boxes.

COMPENSATION

Internships are unpaid and are intended to fulfill course credit requirements for internships and practicums.
