P/T - Archival Processing Intern - New York Botcanical Garden (Bronx)
The New York
Botanical Garden seeks an Archival Processing Intern for the fall 2015 semester
to assist with the processing of a large collection of landscape maps and
architectural plans.
DESCRIPTION: The intern will assist in inventorying a
collection of historic landscape and architectural plans and maps, entering information about each piece into an
existing database which will be made
searchable to the public. Candidates must have taken at least one course in
archival concepts, or be enrolled in an archival course during their first
semester of the internship to be eligible for the position.
QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated
understanding of archival collections and principles of arrangement and
description. Ability to work
independently. Strong organization and
time-management skills; attention to accuracy and detail is essential. Interest in landscape design a plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform basic rehousing and description of inventory.
• Contribute to a subject content Libguide and to Garden
blog.
• Apply basic preservation techniques including storage and
foldering of oversized materials.
• Assist with basic collection management, including
numbering of folders and boxes.
COMPENSATION
Internships are unpaid and are intended to fulfill course
credit requirements for internships and practicums.
