Fall (15 hours per week).
The HBO Archive internship offers experience with archive management, cataloging, collections processing, and corporate archive metadata management to Library Science and Moving Image Archive graduate students.
Archive interns may specialize in Metadata, Media Asset Management, or Archive Management; or they may spread their experiences across these three areas.
Metadata – Data mapping exercises; data normalization projects; cataloging and indexing for new collections (such as props, costumes, corporate archive items, or file-based media); and assisting with archive tools, including assessing proofs of concept and vendor demos.
Media Asset Management – Processing and taking inventory for specific collections; analyzing and normalizing collections data; researching legacy video and film formats; researching historic HBO collections; and assisting with edits to the HBO Archive Collection Management Policy.
Archive Management – Participating in department staff meetings; shadowing a manager and attending project meetings; visiting storage facilities; analyzing storage vendor data and other statistics; and documenting and visualizing workflows, asset lifecycles, and project roadmaps.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Must be enrolled in a program that confers a Masters in Library Science or Moving Image Archiving. Must possess: close attention to detail; experience with Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel; an interest in physical asset management, media archives, and/or digital asset management; familiarity with audiovisual media formats.
DESIRED SKILLS / TRAITS:
Familiarity with metadata analysis tools and techniques; familiarity with the media industry; strong writing skills; experience with cataloging media assets, physical and digital.
