UX Content Strategy Intern, Google (Manhattan)

We’re excited to announce our first UX Content Strategy internship program. We’re looking for a user-experience writer (UX writer) intern who has a knack for writing in simple, friendly language and an eye for creating cohesive content experiences across Google products. The internships are located at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, CA, and at Google’s office in Manhattan.

What we do:
Content strategists plan, create, deliver, and manage content as an integral part of the product design process. “Content” can include text, voice, data, images, and videos. As a speciality within this discipline, UX writers develop on-task, on-brand language and guidelines for Google products.

Sample activities for the UX writer intern:
  • Contribute to a product's content strategy, thinking holistically about how the content pieces fit together to create a cohesive whole
  • Document the localization process for a product
  • Update a design or product style guide to incorporate new content requirements
  • Develop UI text and notifications for a new feature or experience
  • Develop a test plan for text/content and publish findings for fellow Googlers

Here’s a bit more about the experience we’re looking for in our UX writer intern.

You’ll shape product experiences by creating useful, meaningful text that helps users complete the task at hand. You must be a stellar writer. You’ll help us to establish cohesive language and a unified voice across products and platforms. You’ll use empathy, reason, and data to inform content choices. You’ll pursue a deep understanding of your products, including participating in research studies. You’ll provide content recommendations that include the right words and, sometimes, complementary data and images.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with designers, researchers, prototypers, product managers, and engineers to define requirements
  • Write clear, concise user-interface text (UI text) for products
  • Evaluate product experiences through audits and other supplementary research techniques
  • Establish language recommendations and document standards in style guides

Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in a BA/BS or MS degree program and graduating in winter 2017, 2018, or 2019
  • Must be currently enrolled in a full-time degree program and returning to the program after completion of the internship

Interested in applying?
Qualified candidates should apply on this “User Experience Design Intern, Summer 2017” posting (we’re a design discipline at Google) on the Google Students site. Applications will be accepted from January 6 through January 23, 2017.

NOTE: though the description is for a UX designer, this is the correct link to apply for the content strategist internship; this role is part of our broader UX intern program.
