P/T - Read! Write! Create! Program Facilitators - Brooklyn Public Library (Brooklyn)
Applications are solicited ASAP for Program Facilitators for BPL’s
Read! Write! Create! (RWC) literacy program. RWC will hold two six-session
series of comic book writing workshops for children in three public housing
development community centers and three branches of the Brooklyn Public Library
(BPL) on specific dates in the Spring of 2014. The facilitators are scheduled
to work for 2 hours on each session of the series, which will take place
weekdays during after school hours or on weekends. Upon completion of the series,
there will be a possibility of renewal for the summer and fall series.
BPL will partner with the Comic Book Project to introduce the RWC
workshop series during which children will write, design and produce original
comic books, and parents and caregivers will become informed about family
reading engagement, school readiness and summer learning. The goals of RWC are
to strengthen reading and writing skills in five- to nine-year-old children
from low-income households through enriching hands-on workshops, to strengthen
ties between branch libraries and families living in public housing
developments, and to raise awareness of the importance of recreational reading
and writing practice as it pertains to in-school learning and child
development.
Duties and responsibilities:
· Using
the curriculum created by the Comic Book Project and adapted by BPL, facilitate
comic book writing workshops for children.
· Work
collaboratively with the Children’s Librarian at the assigned branch and staff
at the public housing community center.
· Promote
literacy skills by exploring the connection between words and visual imagery as
it relates to narrative structure and content.
· Setup
and breakdown activity space.
· Communicate
clearly with Read! Write! Create! Coordinator.
Education and Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s
Degree
· Experience
working with children ages five to nine
· Excellent
communication skills; Strong presentation and programming skills
· Flexibility
and willingness to travel
· Enrollment
in a graduate library or education program desirable, but not essential
· Interest
in and knowledge of comic books, graphic novels, and sequential art a plus
Compensation: $100 per
program and $100 to attend the training

The Carnegie Hall Archives is seeking an enthusiastic intern who will assist the archivists with digital archiving, conservation and preservation, cataloging, and collection management activities. Applicants must be current students or recent graduates of graduate archival, library science, or museum studies programs who have an interest in music or history, or students or recent graduates of specialized graduate programs in audiovisual archives and preservation with an interest in digital preservation.
The intern will help support activities related to the Digital Archives Project and will gain digital archives experience working with analog audiotapes and videotapes and preparing them for shipping and digitization by an outside vendor. Other activities include quality control of digital files returned from vendors, re-housing and cataloging of historical programs and organizational documents, and processing collections. The internship is designed to provide hands-on experience with archival processing and handling of assets, both physical and digital. Interns may also be assigned additional collection management tasks depending on experience.
The intern will be expected to work at least one full day a week (9:30am-5:30pm), preferably 2 or 3 days a week. Some work will take place at an offsite storage facility. While this is an unpaid internship, the intern will receive transportation and lunch reimbursement.
Required Skills and Abilities:
• Coursework in archival descriptive practices and standards.
• Keen attention to detail with spreadsheets and databases.
• Must be able to write and communicate clearly and effectively and work well independently.
• Ability to lift boxes that weigh up to 40lbs.

IPI is seeking a 12-15
month intern to assist in developing content for an online print identification
resource, Graphics Atlas, www.graphicsatlas.org . The internship will begin in spring/summer 2014, depending on availability

The Union Archives Group contain over 140 collections of personal papers from Union’s famous faculty and students since 1836, which are in demand by researchers from nation and worldwide, whose interests range through social, political, economic and educational as well as theological issues. The collections cover a wide range from correspondence describing a tour
through China in the early 1900s to a local event in the 1970s which made front page news in the New York Times.
The Archives of Women in Theological Scholarship (AWTS) founded at the turn of this century is a unique and growing group of collections from those extraordinary women who were the ‘firsts’ in modern times to establish roles in the church, in theologically connected educational or scholarly societies. Many of these active collection donors continue to provide further archival
sources.
Tasks:
Creating contents lists for archival collections.
Boxing and re-foldering historic papers
Researching and writing finding aids (guides to archival collections)
Undertaking basic preservation
Writing blog entries in the Burke Library blog

P/T - Children's Book Collection Internship - Museum of the City of New York (Manhattan)
The Museum of the City of New York seeks a library science graduate student intern to assist the Manuscripts and Reference Archivist with a project to assess the Museum’s Children’s Book Collection during the Spring 2014 semester.
Project Description:
The first phase of the project entails conducting a full inventory of the Children’s Book Collection, including updating the Museum’s collections management system (CMS) with photographic documentation, dimensions, condition assessment, and location information. Phase two of the project involves conducting research into each individual volume to collect information regarding its rarity and significance. Students will gain experience conducting condition assessments, developing object handling skills, working in the Museum’s CMS, and becoming familiar with tools for researching rare books.

It celebrates and interprets the city, educating the public about its distinctive character, especially its heritage of diversity, opportunity, and perpetual transformation. It serves the public through exhibitions, school and public programs, publications, and collections.
Requirements:
The Internship requires a minimum commitment of one full day a week (7 hours), scheduled during the Monday - Friday workweek. Internships are unpaid. Preference will be given to students completing the internship for course credit. Candidates must be currently enrolled in a Master’s program for Library Science. Students with a focus in rare books or an interest in children’s books are encouraged to apply.
