Wildlife Conservation Society Archives Internship

Title: Wildlife Conservation Society Archives Internship [3 months, part-time, paid]

The Project: As part of a grant-funded project, the Wildlife Conservation Society Library and the New York Botanical Garden ’s LuEsther T. Mertz Library are digitizing approximately 400 postcards to be displayed on a publicly accessible website.

Duties: Reporting directly to the Librarian/Archivist at the Wildlife Conservation Society, the Archives Intern will be responsible for scanning the postcards, reviewing the images for quality control, and creating original Dublin Core records for each postcard using CONTENTdm.

Qualifications: Enrollment in (or recent completion of) a Master’s degree program in Library Science, with a focus on Archives, from an ALA-accredited institution. Work experience or knowledge of Dublin Core or other metadata schemes, LCSH or other controlled vocabularies, AACR2, MARC formats, OCLC, and NACO standards for name authorities. Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently. Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Experience with CONTENTdm or other digital library management software highly desirable.

Schedule: Three months (approximately February 2012 through April 2012)—20 hours a week, for a total of 250 hours. Work must be scheduled within 9:00-5:00, Monday-Friday.

Pay: $15.00/hour
