The Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) is seeking a motivated Library/Information Science student with an interest in hospital libraries to assist the Medical Librarian in the special project of creating a Research Resource Guide for HSS staff.


Duties: This internship opportunity is focused on the special project of creating a Research Resource Guide.


You will also have the opportunity to participate in the library’s daily operation including:


 Assist in interlibrary loan and document delivery (NLMs Docline)
 

 Assist HSS residents/fellows/staff in use of library resources
o Including PubMed, CINAHL, ClinicalKey, UpToDate and RefWorks
 

 Assist with library orientations
 

Desired Qualifications:
The opportunity is available to any Library Science student with an interest in medical libraries, but special consideration will be given to candidates with the following:
 

 Completion of coursework in Health Sciences Resources
 

 Completion of coursework in basic cataloging
 

 Experience with Content Management Systems and/or web design
 

 Strong communication skills
 

Stipend:
The internship position is being offered with a daily stipend and/or an opportunity for course credit.
 

Hours:
The candidate would need to be able to commit a minimum of 10 hours a week (e.g. 2 days at 5 hours per day). The schedule is flexible, but would need to be Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm EST.

Description of Employer: The New York Law Institute is the oldest circulating law library in New York City.

 

 

Internship Description:

The New York Law Institute library seeks an intern to assist the Director of Information Technology with various technology projects such as: 

    • Creating/managing presence on social media channels, e.g. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.
    • Creating and editing pages within a WordPress website
    • Creating and editing LibGuides

Work & Educational Requirements:

Knowledge of social media a MUST!!  Experience with creating LibGuides a plus.  Approximately 10 hour/week commitment.
