Summary

The Legal Information Services and Electronic Publishing department is a team of librarians who are responsible for the strategy, creation, and ongoing development of PLI PLUS, our online research platform. This department also supports customers with training and sells publishing products to law schools and manages their accounts.

The Digital Archive Intern will contribute to the PLI PLUS Digital Archive Project by assisting in our efforts to expand the electronic availability of our published back catalog. What’s more, the intern will gain experience in digital archives, research databases, and electronic publishing.

Responsibilities include:

• Locating eBook files and/or generating them via an automated generation process
• Evaluating files for completeness,
• Performing basic XML cleanup
• Managing eBook components using PLI’s content management systems
• Deploying eBooks to our online research database, PLI PLUS
• Assisting with other projects as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Qualified interns must be enrolled in an MLS or MLIS program. Recent graduates of relevant programs may also apply.
• Must be available to participate in the program the full 8 weeks, beginning June 10th and ending August 9th.
• Must have the ability to work Monday – Thursday from 9 or 9:30 am – 5 or 5:30 pm plus shorter day on Friday.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Some intern assignments will require familiarity with department-specific software.
• Must have the ability to provide recommendation letters from school and/or previous employer.
• Will be required to provide documentation of academic record displaying a GPA of 3.2 or higher.

Overview

Practising Law Institute (“PLI”), an innovative leader in legal education programs and services, is searching for a small team of enthusiastic interns to join PLI for an 8-week internship program this summer. PLI’s client base includes a large array of prestigious law firms, corporations and government agencies. 

This is an exciting opportunity for students to gain professional business experience in their field of interest in a supportive learning environment.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM SUMMARY

The internship program will begin on June 3rd and end on July 26th in our midtown Manhattan office. This is a paid internship at the rate of $16 per hour. A typical work schedule will be 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (including an unpaid one hour lunch break), Monday through Thursday, and 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Friday.  PLI closes early on Friday during the summer months. 

Our internship program will offer students the opportunity to learn, perform tasks and take part in projects that relate to their academic majors.   

Below is a brief description of the departments seeking interns and corresponding internship assignment:
  • Accounting
The Accounting department maintains financial books and records.
Internship Assignment:
Responsibilities include revenue recognition processing in NetSuite, preparing and entering journal entries, account analysis, preparing vendor request forms, reconciliation and assisting with the creation of the Accounting procedures manual. Strong Excel skills are required. Accounting or Finance students preferred.

  • Business Analytics
The Business Analytics function supports the Executive Leadership team by reviewing data, assessing workflows across departments, recommending process improvements and business strategies based on analysis.
Internship Assignment:
Responsibilities include market research, data analysis projects for business cases, and financial analysis. This intern will be working with PLI data in Excel to categorize information and formulate templates and outputs that will help inform business decisions. Note: This position has a part-time schedule of approximately 19-25 hours per week.

  • Information Technology (Two Opportunities)
The IT department evaluates, recommends and implements technologies as well as performs maintenance and upgrades/updates on software operating systems and databases in the PLI offices.
Internship Assignment for Digital Products:
Responsibilities include assisting with user stories and research, light design tasks using Sketch, use of google analytics for analyzing current site performance, data entry, project management tool support, supporting research that will support buildout of an Android App, collaborating with and providing support to the IT team. General interest in product development and product design is required.
Internship Assignment for Product Management:
Responsibilities include collaborating and providing support to our analysts, engineers and designers on projects as needed, helping with data mapping and validation, verifying application functionality and usability, monitoring analytics and participating in development projects in an Agile environment. Students studying Information Systems/Technology or Computer Science preferred.

  • Legal Information Services and Electronic Publishing
The Legal Information Services and Electronic Publishing is responsible for the strategy, creation, and ongoing development of PLI PLUS, our online research platform. This department also supports customers with training and sells publishing products to law school and manage their accounts.

  • Membership Services
The Membership Services department is responsible for acquiring, retaining, renewing, and growing PLI’s Enterprise Revenue. This department, along with multiple support groups, supports enterprise customer accounts.
Internship Assignment:
Responsibilities include assisting with daily Salesforce data uploads; auditing activity by all Salesforce users, ensuring data is maintained and special projects as assigned. The ideal candidate for this position has previous experience working with large data sets. Strong excel skills are required. Previous experience using Salesforce and SQL is strongly preferred.

  • Publishing
The Publishing department is responsible for publishing three types of products: Treatises, Answer Books and Course Handbooks.
Internship Assignment:
Responsibilities include cite checking, proofreading, editing and research. Second year law school student preferred.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Qualified interns fall under one of the following categories:
    • Rising senior college undergraduate
    • 2019 college graduate from an accredited undergraduate program
    • Current law school student
    • 2019 or recent law school graduate
  • Must be available to participate in the program the full 8 weeks, beginning June 3rd and ending July 26th.

Description:

Shareablee is looking for an intern with an interest in entertainment and/or business to assist with various taxonomy projects to expand and maintain the classification of their influencer and entity social profile databases.  This is a paid internship for a student to gain experience in taxonomy development.
 
Responsibitlies: 

- Expand and maintain classification of country/region industry, influencer, and/or holding company categories.

- Input and classify new and existing social properties for clients, sales prospects, and special company research projects.

- Coordinate with outside departments on industry/influencer classification needs.

- Work with Taxonomy / Dictionary Team to establish and provide internal guidance on industry/influencer classification rules.
 
Requirements:

- Enrollment in a current Bachelors and/or Masters Degree program in Library Science or Information Science.

- Familiarity and appreciation of metadata and taxonomy management.

- Experience in building out taxonomies and/or metadata schemas on websites or digital asset management systems a plus.

Latin Am Studies Collection Devel't Internship (Manhattan)

Latin American Studies Collection Development Internship 
Columbia University Libraries, Fall 2018 

Are you currently enrolled in an MLIS program? Are you interested in collaborative collection development initiatives? Do you know Spanish and/or Portuguese at a working level? The Global Studies unit at Columbia University Libraries is seeking a Fall semester intern to work on several regional and national collaborative collection development projects related to Latin American Library collections. The internship could be renewed for subsequent semesters depending on the projects undertaken and intern interest. 

The intern will work with the 2CUL Latin American & Iberian Studies Librarian (Columbia/Cornell) to evaluate, analyze, and write up findings and recommendations for several collection development projects related to Latin America. Projects will be determined with intern interest and professional development goals in mind: 

 Analyze duplicate print journal holdings at Cornell and Columbia Universities. 

 Compare electronic primary sources at Cornell and Columbia including analysis of usage statistics, local discovery, and marketing strategies for usage to various communities at both universities. 

 Retrospective collection development of monographs related to contemporary art in the Caribbean. 

 Analyze and follow-up on the results for the Latin Americanist Research Resources Project Distributed Resources Project survey. 

 Review of collection development policies at both institutions. 

 Mapping of various regional and national collaborative collection development projects. 

 Impact of local treatments of Latin American studies collections on a consortium and within shared print collection environments. 

Internships are unpaid and *must* be taken for credit through your school. Interns are asked to commit for at least 10 hours per week within Monday – Friday during normal business hours. There is a possibility to do most of this work remotely but these will all be collaborative projects between the supervising librarian and the intern and continuous feedback, shared editing of documents and progress reports are expected.

In operation since 1974, ​​The Lesbian Herstory Archives is home to the world's oldest and largest collection of archival, bibliographic and multimedia materials by and about the diverse lesbian experience. 

LHA is, and has always been, an all-volunteer run, 501(c)3 , non-profit educational organization with no paid staff and no government support.   We rely upon individual donations and private foundation support.
We offer research assistance to academics, artists, filmmakers authors, individuals and classes. Cataloguing System Creation Intern, DOCOMOMO (NY)

DOCOMOMO New York/Tri-State is seeking a part-time archivist intern to work with board members in creating a system for cataloguing the chapter’s archives. Our organizational records include information on operations, advocacy efforts, special events and lectures, as well as architectural surveys, photographs, and other documentation on specific Modern buildings. As part of this project, the archivist intern will help set up a system to catalogue items and complete an initial top-level inventory. A possible future phase of the project (not included as part of this request) would include an evaluation of the holdings and the potential for scanning and creating an online archive and cataloging of materials.
