Search & Data Management Internship
EMC’s eServices organization is seeking a Search & Data Management intern to work as part of the User Experience team. This position will work directly with program management, content publishing, and operations teams to aid in curating enterprise-level user and product data and architecting EMC’s support search experience.   This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for an information science professional to creatively put theory into practice in the service of information consumers.
This is a full-time, temporary, paid position onsite at EMC’s global headquarters in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, during the summer of 2013.
Responsibilities include:
·         Implementing and maintaining enterprise terminology and taxonomies per established best practices
·         Maintenance of customer and partner user profile data
·         Gathering business requirements relating to search and indexing functionality
·         Collecting and analyzing metrics relating to search utilization and metadata  consumption
·         Analyzing data sets to identify inconsistencies
·         Supporting activities related to creation and stabilization of new search capabilities.
·         Supporting integration of search and metadata services with content repositories and web sites
·         Supporting activities related to user research and usability testing
Desired qualifications:
·         ALA-accredited Masters in Library and Information Science, or coursework pursued toward a Master’s degree in an ALA-accredited program
·         Demonstrated knowledge of controlled vocabularies, classification, subject analysis, information retrieval, and asset management
·         Familiarity with concepts of search engine-based retrieval, including indexing, precision/recall, relevancy
·         Proficiency with Microsoft office applications, especially Excel; familiarity with XML, SQL a plus
·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills
·         Ability to thrive in a fast-changing, deadline-driven corporate environment
·         Familiarity with the computer hardware and software industry a plus
·         Prior experience in the customer support arena a plus
