Coney Island Museum Collection Internship
The Coney Island Museum seeks two interns to assist in researching, cleaning, re-housing, cataloging, as well as scanning and/or photographing new material that come into the museum’s collection. This is an ideal internship for a student of library science or museum studies who wants to gain real-world experience with the internal workings of a small museum collection.

The Museum’s collection of approximately 6,000 artifacts consists primarily of:

  • Attraction artifacts (game and ride components, furnishings, props)
  • Costume
  • Identifying artifacts (medals, tickets, coupons, tokens)
  • Information artifacts (banners, cards, posters, signs)
  • Photographic materials
  • Published materials (books, sheet music, sound recordings)
  • Records (correspondence, diaries, financial records)
  • Souvenirs (postcards and assorted ephemera)

Interns should have a museum, library, or archival background or should be actively pursuing graduate studies in one of these areas. The intern should also have a familiarity with Coney Island, knowledge of proper museum artifact handling, minor preservation treatment, cataloging standards, and Photoshop.

Come spend the summer at Coney Island! Interns are encouraged to enjoy the programs and events at this multi-arts center during their internship.
