Fall 2026 Internship Opportunity: The Rikers Public Memory Project is seeking an Archive Intern to join our team for the upcoming semester. The intern will help process the backlog of 25+ interviews from our Oral History Collection to get them ready to be added to our RPMP community archive. Applications are due September 1st. Our internship program is sponsored and supported by our chapter members. It is designed to be as flexible as possible for both students and sponsors. For this reason we do not follow an academic calendar. We do ask that you become a student SLA member and commit at least 1 full business day per week to the internship. The more days per week you commit to the internship; the larger the pool of internship opportunities. Generally, host sites require that you be a currently matriculating graduate library school student.
The types of internships that our program offers vary greatly. We encourage you to express the types of internships you wish to explore. Below are just a few examples of our host sites:
Internship descriptions range from general reference, online research, to Intranet content indexing/management. In keeping with our flexibility directive, we believe that the student and the sponsor should clearly understand that along with some clerical-type duties, majority of the responsibilities of an intern is to learn new skill sets and add to their experience.
We ask that the sponsor supervises the intern with an ALA-accredited degreed librarian to ensure that the experience will be worthwhile and resume-building for the intern and provides the sponsor with professional quality work.
Most of our internships are located in Manhattan, but there have been exceptions. Generally our MLS students attend the following programs:
