Fall and Spring Books & Research Internship

About Us:

Books & Research was incorporated in 1986 and is dedicated to providing library and book procurement services for the Federal Government and its agencies. Specializing in supplying military libraries, training facilities and universities, Books & Research supplies a wide range of services to an even wider range of customers. Books & Research has re-built US Navy libraries destroyed by hurricanes, helped the Department of Interior perform a retrospective conversion project, and does book procurement for National Defense Universities’ courses.

The Position:

Books & Research is looking for a recent graduate or a current graduate student in the technical library sciences field to help co-ordinate technical efforts for several library projects for the federal government. A solid understanding of current library technologies in cataloging, indexing, digitization, common library management systems (SIRSI-Dynix, etc) and library operations is required. Please note: this position will not be involved in operations, just the proposal and implementation of infrastructure projects and services.

This is the perfect opportunity for somebody in the Library Sciences field to see how a supplier functions from the inside out. Furthermore, you will get real-world experience working on high level projects. If you are enthusiastic, are interested in seeing how the corporate publishing and business world works (from a non-traditional corporation), how government bureaucracy can be overcome, and have a general sense of humor – this could be the stepping stone for you.

Compensation:

A stipend equal to the cost of the practicum course will be offered -- $2550/semester
