Internship: 5K per season, not including winter

Time: 15 to 20 hours per week

Position Purpose
This is an internship that we would like to offer to Library Science undergraduate or graduate students. The primary purpose of the internship is to provide them practical experience managing subject taxonomies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain mappings between various subject schemes (Publisher to Bowker, Pubtrack-to-BISAC) in order to provide extended subject coverage on Bowker products. Maintain subject mappings sold or licensed to third parties.

  • Create and monitor subject taxonomies and titles level assignments. Alert outsourcing company when a consistent problem is spotted and provide documentation in the form of rules, guidelines, and terminology. Assist with maintenance of the Pubtrack subject taxonomies and classification of data.

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Skilled in various computer programs (Access, Excel, Word, SQL).
  • Novice level knowledge of the major subject-classification schemes used in the book industry (LC subjects, Dewey, LC Class Codes, BISAC, BIC).
Education, Work Experience and/or Licensure

  • B.S. or B.A. in English or related filed

  • MLS

  • Experience in database or other related publishing

Language Skills
Excellent understanding of the English language, oral and written.
