Spring Internship at Catalyst, Inc.

Catalyst is seeking an MLIS student for an unpaid internship (plus transportation and lunch reimbursement) in its Information Center (IC). The IC librarians respond daily to the requests of Catalyst members, academic and nonprofit organizations, professional associations, researchers, writers, and the media.

Because the IC provides such a variety of services to its users, interns will have the opportunity to work on various aspects of librarianship, including the following:
· Research projects regarding gender diversity in business
· Cataloging articles and reports using modified MARC formatting for the IC catalog
· Developing new/updating existing Quick Takes, a series of statistics-based overviews of topics such as women in the labor force, women of color, work/life balance, working mothers, women in Canada, etc. (View the Quick Takes here: http://www.catalyst.org/browse/0/0/0/14/0 )
· Assisting the librarians to answer reference questions as needed
The length of the internship and weekly work schedule are flexible, and interns may work from home for certain tasks of the internship. Remote interns will also be considered. Interns are required to have a basic understanding of library functions and have taken at least one class in cataloging and reference. Interns must be motivated, possess initiative, be technologically savvy, and be able to work independently. Though welcome, previous library work experience is not required and on-the-job training will be provided as part of the internship.

If you are interested, please send a resume and cover letter to Cheryl Yanek, Associate Librarian at the Information Center, at cyanek@catalyst.org. In the cover letter, please address the following topics: (1) Why you want to work for Catalyst; (2) What you would like to work on/what you expect from the internship, and (3) Offer a proposed work schedule.

Rockefeller University

Child and Family Center

1230 York Ave

New York, New York

Internship opportunity for Graduate Library Student

The Child and Family Center on the campus of The Rockefeller University provides care and early childhood development support for 120 children from 6 months to 5 years of age. The Center has a large collection of children’s books that is not inventoried and lacks an appropriate management system that will allow families to check out materials for use at home.

The Center would like to host a library school student for a semester long internship to address this need. Specifically the Center’s administration would like a library student to investigate and assess software applications, including web based systems, that would be efficient, effective, and inexpensive, and make a recommendation for one of them. Further, the Center would like the intern to establish a system for inventorying the books and creating the database with the recommended application. The goal is to have a functional, simple system for adding and removing books from the inventory, and for tracking books as they are borrowed and returned.

Interested students should submit a letter of introduction to:
